A double feature, since I missed last week! Probably okay, since I spent at least four or five days doing nothing but looping Atmos.
Temptation - Harisu
Perfect song. I fuckin' love eurodance. And this pride, we simply must pay respect to my queen Harisu!!! Such a good performer. I love the multiple fakeouts on this song. It's so catchy and the energy is infectious.
Sweet Love - Anita Baker
I had this song on loop while I was finishing/editing a fic I posted a bit ago. There is genuinely nothing like her voice, and on one of the absolute best R&B songs ever written - it's transcendent to me. This whole album is one of my go-to albums when I just need to vibe.
Deja Vu - Infinity Song
My favorite off Infinity Song's brand new album - the whole thing is great, but there's something about this song that really got me. I was obsessed when they previewed it during their Tiny Desk, and I def recommend watching that, too! This might sound weird, but it kind of reminds me of some of my favorite Radiohead, but completely twisted around by the strength of their voices and harmonies. LOVE this song.
Too Easy - Tinashe
Normally there's no way I'd entertain a song that's less than two minutes, and especially one that's basically a commercial, but Tinashe... man! I love this nasty, hyperpop-adjacent beat. The kpop girlies are gonna be fighting each other to the death for a taste of these nachos.
Collect Call Garage Part. II - Tomatomat
I have loved following the debut of this independent girl group over the past year - they already have such a strong vision and visual style. Their music sits in that nostalgic, shimmery vintage pop niche - not really citypop, but somewhere close to it. My other favorite song on their new EP is Lemon & Sherbet, a sweet and light bossa nova track, but Collect Call Garage Part. II is my absolute favorite. At four minutes (with a key change), it has such a lovely arc through the whole thing. I definitely recommend checking out the whole EP!
Escape - ONF
WE ARE SOOOOOOOOO BACK!!! I didn't jive with the title track as much as I'd hoped, but this song is one of the best tracks they've put out in YEARS. It sits right in my favorite ONF mode, which is this super synthy, harmonically-rich, energetic electro-pop-house (it sits alongside other bangers like Slave to the Rhythm, Goosebumps, and Secret Triangle). I've said multiple times that they're the true Shinee Sons, and this song is my best evidence - they are singing their damn lungs out!
2 L0VE - STAYC
QUEENS OF SUMMER!!!! This song is soooo 3rd gen coded in the best way - it could easily fit in with earlier Twice, Oh My Girl, or WJSN singles. The chorus is so buoyant, and that post-chorus synth line is perfectly infectious. I like a good majority of their discography, but I LOVE when they're in this mode the most - sweet, summery, bouncy, and joyful.
Please don't... - K.will
This song gets meme'd so much, especially during pride month, that I often forget that it's straight up (lol) a good song. The chorus gets stuck in my head so much. But also... if you haven't seen the music video, I can't recommend it enough. Plot twist of the century.
Okay that's it! See you next week, probably!
